Anthony and Duncan have had quite a lot to do in their racing careers. For one, they were schoolmates at St Marys and competed against each other on motorbikes, rally cars and now buggies. “It’s been a long trudge to the top this year having to hustle on a shoestring budget and weary tyres what with an inferior 1300cc buggy,” said Anthony. Anthony came into rallying later in the 80s and became the Group N Champion in 1990 and 1991, coming 10th on both occasions in the WRC Safari Rally in a Daihatsu Charade works car. He is excited that at his age he is still able to fight the young Turks. It will be interesting how he will steer his buggy on Sunday. Other than Duncan, Anthony will have to fight it out with rally navigator Keith Henrie and Arthur Kinyanjui “AK 47” who is one of the fastest rising youths along with15 year old, Ken Anunda, Anthony was unhappy with his performance in the fifth round in Baringo where he had to contend with playing second fiddle to Keith Henrie. “It was definitely not a good result,” Anthony quipped. Others expected in Sunday’s buggy action are Teddy Ghir, Sukhi Parmar and Vicky Seerha. Dave Macharia, the Chairman of Rallye Sports Club (RSC) said competitors will race on a 2.4km circuit offering them diverse challenges away from the Jamhuri Park Challenge. “It’s a mixture of rough and smooth stretches with quite a number of jumps to clear,” said Dave. The event organization got a shot in the arm when Colortunes came on board as sponsors.
