Anthony wins Autocross 3
Defending Champion Steve Anthony won the third round of the National Autocross Championship at Jamhuri Park on Saturday to stretch his lead in the buggy standings. It, however, turned out to be a cliffhanger in the latter stages when Keith Henrie amassed additional two bonus points for setting the Fastest Time of The Day (FTD) on his fourth heat run. Anthony was the fastest in the early morning practice lap with which he returned his Satao Camp buggy in 2.22.95minutes. The Champion was 5 seconds faster than Henrie in the first heat though the gap appeared to lessen by every heat run. Henrie drove faster than Anthony in the third heat but the former lost it after being penalized 10 seconds for cutting the track barrier tape.
While Anthony became somewhat untidy in the last heat, Henrie was overjoyed with the day’s fastest run of 2.16.38 minutes. “We really pushed the buggy harder but Anthony had the last laugh,” quipped Henrie. While Henrie’s penalties lost him time, Anthony was fighting to keep his buggy in good nick. “I became somehow untidy towards the end because the buggy was sliding a lot on the sideways and the track was full of slippery corners. We struggled to strike a balance between wheel spin and speed as the wheels weren’t gripping well,” said Anthony. The Kenya Motor Sports Club (KMSC)-organized event saw Mombasa based KK Rathod win the under 24 class while former motocross rider Koome McCourt made his Autocross debut. Youngster Ken Anunda was not classified in the final results after clutch gremlins ended his run in the second heat. Round 3 RESULTS 2. Keith Henrie 7.03.93 3. Ricky Aslam 7.12.92 4.
