Autox 5 in Soysambu
The track site has great potential not only for buggies, but also pikis and 4x4 type events, said Doig. Apart from the actual competition, Doig reckons it will be a great fun weekend. A campsite will be available at Monkey Bridge, next to a river.
The autocross track is about 3 kilometers long, half of which is in a diatomite quarry. The other half is out in the open grass plains. There are plenty of vantage points on the edge of the quarry for spectators. The campsite is about 10 minutes away from the Nakuru highway, and the track about another 10 minutes from the campsite,†explained Doig. Doig said he’s awaiting confirmation on camp charges/conservancy fees from Soysambu, but expects camping to be about Ksh 250 pp, conservancy fees 500 pp, cars Ksh300 and mini buses/canters Ksh800. Among those expected for the RVM&SC round are round four winner and 2008 Champion Ian Duncan, Keith Henrie, defending champion Steve Anthony and Mombasa based Tarveen Oshan. Others expected include newcomer Koome Mc Court, teenage driver Ken Anunda and Karan Rathod also from Mombasa. Anthony has three wins under his belt. He leads the Autocross series though determined to eclipse fast paced Keith Henrie and Duncan who made his 2010 comeback with victory during the 4th round event at Jamhuri. Duncan’s comeback in the 2010 season was an overt act of pace. He also garnered two bonus points for setting the Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) in one of the heats. Charles Mugo, who won the under-24 class in the forth round, hopes to up his ante in the buggy series. |
