KEITH’S MAIDEN WIN
AFTER rounds of aggressive driving, Nairobi based Keith Henrie secured his maiden Kenya National Autocross Championship victory cruising home his buggy in 7.52.45minutes. Henrie, a veteran rally navigator, beat defending champion Steve Anthony by an 8 seconds margin to achieve the feat during the fifth round of the series -organized by Rift Valley Motor and Sports Club (RVM&SC) at the expansive Soysambu Conservancy on Sunday.
Demonstrating what stuff he’s made of, Henrie has been ruffling feathers on his buggy and fighting to eclipse Anthony at his game. With impressive lap times in Soysambu and previously during the third and fourth rounds at Jamhuri Park last month, Henrie will not be taken lightly in the Championship. What’s more, Henrie’s blistering pace in Soysambu earned him some two bonus points after posting the fastest time of the day in one of the heat runs. Although Henrie had to contend with playing second fiddle to Anthony in the table standings, the former appears to be closing in as fast. This was Anthony’s second successive defeat after Ian Duncan vanquished him in the fourth round. After five rounds of brilliant display, Anthony leads the series with 96 points while Henrie is 11points adrift. Russell Hughes from Gilgil completed the podium dash after clocking 8.43.66minutes ahead of Charles Mugo (8.45.15minutes). Besides the podium feat, Russell accomplished a rare double when he claimed the under-24 class in awesome fashion. Mugo, who recently won the MX1 motocross race at Jamhuri park, took second overall in the undr-24 class while Russell’s sibling, Mickey Hughes came home seventh overall to claim the third spot in the now competitive youngsters’ class.
