Sharpe ready for Cross Country Challenge

Simon Sharpe

Kick Energy team driver Simon Sharpe has pronounced himself ready for the second round of the 2011 Kenya Cross Country Championship after having completed a successful test of his unique V8 powered Platz 4x4 over the weekend.

Sharpe, who won the final round of the 2010 championship, had been expected to be the class of the field in 2011 but mechanical gremlins intervened early on during Round One, forcing the crew to become frustrated spectators instead. With the Platz having being repaired and put through a brief shakedown over the past weekend Nairobi based Sharpe is keen to get his season underway; we began the first round with a target on our back after winning at the end of 2010 but the gearbox broke very early in the rally. I’m hoping that the problems are now a thing of the past and am looking forward to heading to Baringo this weekend… my season starts now.

The second round of the Ganatra JCB sponsored Kenya National Cross Country Championship takes place from 7 to 8 May 2011 and will be organized by the Rift Valley Motor and Sports Club. Starting from the Mid-Rift Tourist Information Centre on Saturday morning the various bikes, quads, cars and buggies will head cross country to the overnight halt at Lake Bagoria Hotel. Further off road action awaits the crews on Sunday before the ceremonial finish back at Lake Bagoria Hotel in the afternoon.
