GANATRA CROSS COUNTRY Top buggy, bike, car and quad competitors will be on the charge as the third round of Ganatra Cross Country Championship takes place in Dol Dol, Laikipia- approximately 60 kilometres from Nanyuki town.
The event is being sponsored by local JCB dealers Ganatra Plant and Equipment. Rider Shivam Vinayak is expected to impress on his new Monster Energy Kawasaki 450 four stroke machine as he renews his rivalry with the likes of Shaun Miller, Moses Mugo (Honda), Charles Mugo (KTM) and defending bikes Champion Andrew Pleasance also riding a KTM. Vinayak was left to rue his ride in the Lake Bogoria round last May when he led the event by a big margin on day one only for his Yamaha 450cc motocross bike to run out of fuel. Defending buggies champion Ian Duncan is expected to lock horns with the likes of fast rising Samir Khan and Jim Heather Hayes in his twin-seater buggy. It will be interesting to see how the car class rivalry unfolds. Defending car class champion Nish Lakhani is expected to fight it out with the likes of Rajesh Maini and Mike Ogwapit (Range Rover). Quads champion Shazar Anwar will be charging in anticipation of a good ride as well as chalking up more points against Zane Young and Chantel Young will be partaking the buggy class also with hopes of securing championship points. Meanwhile, preparations are at an advanced stage. Organisers have put together a spectator and competitor friendly event located 265 kilometres from Nairobi. According to organisers Nanyuki Rally Group (NRG), the Raid will be run on 3 Group Ranches – Kuri Kuri, Mukurian and Moropusi. The event HQ and Campsite is on the Mukurian Ranch – past the Dol Dol Airstrip (Kiwanja Ndege) . Camping Fees will be charged on All Vehicles entering the venue at Kshs 1000/- , payable at the pay point en route to the HQ / Campsite. Catering & bar facilities to be provided by Kirima Hotel. Clean water is scarce in the area and all are advised to carry sufficient for their use. Event HQ will be at Kiwanja Ndege at Dol Dol where scruteneering and documentation will take place on Saturday from 8AM- 12.midday Action starts at 1400hrs. After overnight break, competitors resume action on Sunday at 9A
