Pleasance/Shivam face off in Athi Enduro
Battle in the third round of the Kenya National Enduro Championship takes an interesting turn in Athi River this Sunday with runaway leader Andrew Pleasance and motocross ace Shivam Vinayak going head to head. Shivam, an emerging gem in the championship, caused consternation in the second round of the series in Il-Bissel when riding on a Yamaha450, number 96, clocked 2.05.33 in 10 laps to bamboozle round one winner Pleasance. This was an overachievement of sorts for Shivam who is ranked fourth in the table after skipping the first round in which Pleasance prevailed in Narok. Pleasance hopes to continue ruffling the feathers even with defending champion Harry Guelker (KTM 525) ready to pounce. Guelker is a man trying to save his face after being placed in an odd fourth position in Il-Bissel and given his previous record; it’s only suicidal for Shivam and Pleasance to take him for granted. What’s more, the lovers of the gruelling off-road competition will have a lot to feast their eyes on when blood rivalry adds some bonus zest to the competition. Veteran off-road exponent Moses Mugo (KTM525) and his son Charles Mugo (Honda 450) will fight for honours besides plotting to outdo each other. Sunday’s Enduro could hardly be complete without a mention of ageless and fiesty Jorgen Nielsen who will be riding his Yamaha 450 contraption. Spectators could be rubbing their hands with glee anticipating another family rivalry if Jorgen’s son Anthony Nielsen places his entry. If Anthony, who featured in the recent Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, joins the family fray, it will be a double treat for fans. The weekend meeting has several regulars like Tej Sehmi (KTM 525), Ben Wescott of the British High Commission and Salim Walimohammed (KTM200). But what should capture the imagination of fans is just what will transpire in the family battle. Come to think of it! Does Allan De Boer, for instance, has something up his sleeves to stop his father Rob De Boer? It only remains just what will come out of it.
