HORSEY BROTHERS READY TO ‘’KICK START’’ THE NEW RALLY

The two car Kick Energy team is ready and raring to go as the 2012 KCB Kenyan National Rally Championship begins in Nyeri this weekend. Alex Horsey will continue to drive the powerful Mitsubishi Evo 10 whilst brother Peter is hoping that developments to the crowd pleasing Moto Moto will improve reliability and drivability.

Alex has progressed rapidly since moving to the Evo 10 half way through last season, taking a podium on the Eldoret Rally and setting a number of fast stage times. With that experience under his belt Alex will be hoping to continue improving and is in a friendly race against his brother to see who can record their first outright win on home soil. The Mombasa Rally seems so long ago but ever since the last season ended I have been hungry to get back in the car. I'm feeling pretty comfortable in the Evo 10 now and aim to push hard from the start this weekend.

Peter, the 2010 African representative in the worldwide Pirelli Star Driver scheme, spent most of 2011 developing the unique and very popular Moto Moto, a Datsun pickup with Mitsubishi Evo internals. Whilst the car proved very quick, a 2% time penalty for "SPV's" hampered his progress. For 2012 the time penalty has been replaced by a turbo restrictor and Peter is  confident that this will work to his advantage. Although the turbo restrictor lowers our overall power, the pickup is lighter and  more nimble than a Group N car and this means we should still be very competitive. Either way it is a joy to drive and I love  the response the car gets from the crowds around the country!

The Nyeri Rally begins with scrutineering on Saturday morning at the Greenhills Hotel in Nyeri. A 2pm ceremonial start from the KCB Branch wil lbe followed immediately by a super special stage. The rally restarts at 8am on Sunday morning whereby the assembled crews will tackle 14 special stages around Nyeri before the ceremonial finish at the Ruringu Stadium later in the day.
