IVAN GUYA SPARKLES AT JAMHURI PARK Despite pre-season scares from newly promoted Apollo Mbuki, wonder boy Ivan Guya lived up to expectation in the season opening Kenya National Motocross Championships at Jamhuri Park race track. Guya opened an early lead in the MX85 class as bikes showdown got off to a thunderous start. "The bike's handling felt so good in the entire three heats and this is a perfect way of starting a season," said Guya. Apollo Mbuki also won accolades in the MX85 riding his KTM 85 machine to second overall at first attempt. "I guess this is a perfect start. I am still coming to grips with the bike," Mbuki commented. MOTO – X GOES TO KITALE IN 2010 .JPG) One of the most interesting features in the 2009 Kenya National Motocross Championship series is the hosting of two rounds outside Nairobi. Besides the third round designated at the sandy Diani racetrack in South Coast on April 11, plans are also afoot to build up a new track at a serene Kitale farm that will host one of the eight rounds. The opening round takes place at Jamhuri Park on February 21 organized by East African Motor Sports Club (EAMSC). Dr Sunil Vinayak of EAMSC said funds accrued from the anticipated new sponsor from a Kitale-based seed firm will be used in building the track as well as catering for transportation of bikes to the venue. The East African AMU Challenge will be a series of three rounds with the likelihood of Uganda hosting two. Dr Vinayak said there are plans to relocate the regional AMU to Kitale due to the geographical proximity from Uganda though the decision is subject to confirmation by tactical experts who will send to inspect the venue. |

The third and last round of the East Africa AMU takes place at Jamhuri park on Sunday with the race expected to ascertain individual class winner as well as the overall team title. It also doubles up as the eighth and last round of the H20/Oilibya National Motocross series. Uganda’s team liaison and MX2 veteran, Chris Glaser said the outfit is well refined this time round after a series of events at the Entebbe Garuga racetrack. The Uganda team will be skipped by Arthur Blick who keeps returning to Kenya in order to secure the requisite experience Jamhuri Park has to offer. Glaser said Ugandans will be arriving Friday well in time for official practice programmed for Jamhuri Park on Saturday. Indeed, Ugandans are at pains to retain the trophy they won last year. They go into the third and final round of the AMU trailing Kenya by a mere 10 points. Kenya lead the series by 1260 cumulative points and the neighbours will have to use all the tricks in the book to rock the hosts. |
