SHIVAM SEALS MX1 TITLE

Four riders including Shivam Vinayak sealed respective titles during the sandy showdown of the seventh and penultimate round of the H2O/Oilibya National Motocross Championship in Diani, South Coast Monday.

Apollo Mbuki maintained a flawless score as he also sealed the MX65 title while the MX50 leader Murigu Njiiri saw the kids’ Championship go down to the wire when he led in the first two heats but fell off his KTM 50cc bike in the third.

Adil Khan became the new MX65 champion despite being beaten by comeback kid Ivan Guya. Adil came home second but since his closest rival Eugene Maina skipped the Diani meeting, he was home and dry.

Guya was on his second outing since coming back from a nagging leg injury last month.

Shivam was all smiles as he became the first rider in history to clinch all the five classes at stake from MX50 through to MX1.

Riding a Yamaha 450cc four-stroke machine, Shivam did it unhesitatingly on sandy and sea level conditions confirming his fast and fearless antics.

In what has been a successful career, Shivam won the 50cc class (currently MX50) in 1999, claimed MX65 class in 2001, the MX85 in 2005, twice won back to back MX2 titles (then 125cc) in 2007 and 2008 before entering his name in the annals of motocross history with the MX1 scalp.

“Though it was expected, it’s really a great moment. I now hope to perform much better in overseas meetings as well as enduro championships that I keep getting used to by event,” said Shivam.

Shivam is the defending champion of the 125cc class in the Enduro Championship. “I guess the sky is now the limit,” Shivam added.

Shivam attained the unassailable 413points to secure the feat. Murigu improved to 371 points at penultimate stage and will only need to ride his KTM bike top six during the last round of the National Motocross series set for Nairobi next month.
