Sunday’s race also counts towards the eighth and last round of the H20/Oilibya National Championship.

Though titles at National level have been sealed, the meeting is anticipated to be fascinating from the regional point of view.

Kenya goes into the championship leading Ugandan by a 20points margin. Ugandans (1250points) named a 21 man team with intentions to secure a second successive championship title in Nairobi.

Some of the common names in the Uganda outfit are the Van Pee family, Nathalie, Vanessa and Maxime. The Blick family returns with skipper Arthur Blick and his two sons Alastair and Paddy

Tanzania will be entering a team of eight riders though not so much opposition is anticipated from the Arusha-based lot; still growing in stature and numbers. The Tanzanian outfit is being coordinated by Arusha based Ian Harrybottle and Per Bjerre who is entering in the MX1 class. Sarah Bjerre and Rebecca Bjerre are some of the riders to watch from the lean Tanzanian team.

Kenyans are expected to dominate individual and team trophies. Tutu Maina, who was the sole Kenyan at the Full Throttle AMU continental championship in Namibia, wants to prove a point against his cousin Cruze Muigai who rode his four-stroke Yamaha 250 machine to the natioalMX2 diadem in Diani.

Newly crowned MX 85 champion Adil Khan is also at pains to prove his title victory wasn’t as a result of Ivan Guya’s long injury layoff. But Khan, in an ex-Cruze Muigai Yamaha85, may end up playing second fiddle to Guya for the regional AMU diadem that the latter has won in the two meeting in Kampala and Nairobi.

Shivam Vinayak should be invulnerable both at National and region level. Shivam won the sixth round –cum-AMU second round despite punctures that stymied his flawless run during the last heat. “I am not taking the race lightly. The idea is to wrap up the season on a high,” said Shivam,

Shivam went on: “I know Ugandans will come very hard at us but it’s our aim that Kenyans take all the three podium positions in all categories,” adds Shivam.

Dr Sunil Vinayak of EAMSC commented: “We have made changes to the circuit with incorporation of special jumps as well as many flat surfaces, and above all, a rare 180degress cornering. 10% of the track should be sand,” said Sunil.
